We Handle All Forms of Malpractice at St. Joseph’s Hospital

Medical malpractice covers many behaviors and actions by doctors, nurses, nurse practitioners, other medical providers, and employees. Here is a list of potential cases we take:

  • Birth injury and OB-GYN malpractice: This covers injuries that mothers and children may suffer during pregnancy, during birth, or after birth.
  • Wrong medications: Doctors, nurses, and pharmacy workers could be liable if they prescribed or administered the wrong prescription or medication.
  • Emergency room malpractice: ERs provide critical care to injured or sick patients, and malpractice can happen at any step of the process. Emergency care is often the difference between life and death for many patients, and hospitals should be held responsible for negligence. Whether it was a failure to admit you or a loved one, or if they improperly or wrongly discharged you or a family member from the ER, you can pursue legal action.
  • Misdiagnosis: This form of malpractice includes delayed diagnosis or a failure to diagnose. Diagnosing a health issue can help patients stay ahead of serious issues and start a care plan to manage their health or prevent worsening issues. Delayed or improper diagnoses can leave you with severe health problems that could have been prevented.
  • Cancer malpractice and radiology errors: Cancer is still a serious concern despite the many advances medicine has made. When doctors, nurses, surgeons, radiologists, and others misinterpret results, fail to order testing, or are otherwise negligent, it can have very serious consequences for you or a loved one.
  • Cardiology malpractice: Heart issues can be monitored and treated by medical professionals, but only if they uphold the standard of care expected of their field. One common form of malpractice is a failure to recognize heart attack symptoms in women, even though medical professionals should be aware of the potential for female patients to present different symptoms.
  • Stroke malpractice: Strokes are serious, and they can profoundly change your life if left untreated. Many people even die from untreated strokes. Sometimes, stroke patients go undiagnosed and are discharged from the hospital, leaving the condition to worsen. If negligence at St. Joseph’s Hospital means you or someone you know received substandard and negligent treatment, you could take legal action.

If your case does not fall under any of these categories, you can still call us. Our team handles a variety of different types of cases, and we may still be able to help you seek the justice you need after an act of hospital negligence.

Does St. Joseph’s Hospital Have a History of Neglect and Malpractice?

St. Joseph’s Hospital is no stranger to lawsuits. Part of the BayCare Health System, St. Joseph’s has a primary location in Tampa with multiple care facilities on Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard, and a few others in the larger Tampa Bay area. Here are just some of the legal actions the hospital has had to deal with:

  • In 2001, one patient suffered from a preventable mistake. After Mr. William Cox was found incapacitated following a stroke, emergency personnel transported him to St. Joseph’s Hospital. The emergency room staff failed to obtain information regarding the details of Mr. Cox’s stroke, which was pertinent and necessary to treat him appropriately. He had an ischemic stroke, which is caused by a blood clot, and needed to be treated with tPA in order to dissolve the clots. Despite being admitted to the hospital with enough time to receive this treatment, however, medical professionals never considered it as an option, resulting in permanent paralysis and aphasia.
  • In 2009, three young cancer patients allegedly died due to a dangerous fungus exposure that was released during a reconstruction project at St. Joseph’s Hospital. They died within only one month of their stay.
  • In 2020, two parents suffered the tragic loss of their infant, Jacob. Kathryn and Travis Wilson not only had to deal with the passing of their son only three days after his birth, but they had to seek  legal action as a result of St. Joseph’s Hospital allegedly losing their child’s remains after an autopsy.
