Our Community Involvement
Florida Trial Lawyers Who Care
Our legal endeavors here at Freidin Brown, P.A. are driven by a real want to improve the lives of the people we represent, whether by helping them with complicated employment litigation, a sensitive personal injury claim, or another type of case or lawsuit. It is no surprise, then, that our team takes pride in being active in our communities, volunteering wherever and whenever we can help those in need. This is not just part of our role as being a good corporate citizen, but it is genuinely something we want to do.

Florida Justice Association Honors Philip Freidin with the Perry Nichols Award
On Thursday, September 28, 2023, the Florida Justice Association recognized attorney Philip Freidin for his lifetime of dedication and contributions to our profession and community by naming him the recipient of the 2023 Perry Nichols Award. The award is the highest honor the FJA bestows and is reserved for attorneys who have served the cause of justice in Florida and the nation.
Meet Philip Freidin: A Legal Legend With Over 50 Years of Dedication to Clients
Philip Freidin, the founder of Freidin Brown, has dedicated more than half a century to the pursuit of justice. He has passionately represented those who have suffered serious injuries due to the wrongful actions of others. Philip’s remarkable career has seen him at the forefront of some of Florida’s most groundbreaking personal injury and medical malpractice cases, solidifying his status as a major figure in Florida’s legal landscape. As one federal judge wrote, “he is unquestionably among the upper echelons of lawyers in our district.” Philip previously led the FJA—formerly the Academy of Florida Trial Lawyers—as president from 1992 to 1993, and has been involved in the organization ever since.
The Perry Nichols Award: A Tribute to a Legal Pioneer
The Perry Nichols Award pays homage to the indomitable spirit of Perry Nichols, a trailblazer in personal injury law. Nichols was the first president of the Academy of Florida Trial Lawyers and later served as president of the Association of Trial Lawyers of America (now the American Association for Justice). To honor his enduring legacy, the Florida Justice Association established the Perry Nichols Award in 1977 to annually honor attorneys who demonstrate longstanding dedication to the profession and the civil justice system. Past recipients include J.B. Spence, Christian Searcy, and Supreme Court Chief Justice Peggy Quince. Philip Freidin’s receipt of the Perry Nichols Award is a testament to his outstanding service, dedication, and influence in our legal community.
Freidin Brown, P.A. Lends A Hand at Chapman Partnership, Florida Homeless Shelter
Chapman Partnership has been helping house, inspire, and care for the homeless of South Florida since its incorporation in 1993. Today, this charitable organization has stayed true to its mission and is more influential than ever. Chapman Partnership boasts a 64 success rate when it comes to helping its homeless visitors find permanent or occupational housing.
An important part of what Chapman Partnership does is one of the simplest: providing healthy meals to the homeless of Florida-Dade County. Approximately 2,200 meals are served each day out of its two Homeless Assistance Shelters. Our team at Freidin Brown, P.A. recently helped feed the homeless at one of the shelters. It felt so good to know that our efforts were immediately making a positive impact in someone else’s life. You can learn more about Chapman Partnership by clicking here and visiting its official website.
Freidin Brown, P.A. Donates to St. John Children’s Center & St. Jude’s
In October 2012, Freidin Brown, P.A. donated new uniforms to kids at the St. John Children’s Center in Overtown. Lawyer Philip Freidin was accompanied by Maria Elena Delange and visited the school to meet the children who received the new uniforms. Earlier in the month, Mr. Freidin was also presented with a plaque by Bishop Adams for his commitment to the center and the surrounding community. A current project is in the works, backed by our law firm, to add a new playground to the center as well.
For more than a decade, Freidin Brown, P.A. has also helped raise money for St. Jude’s Children Research Hospital. A parent’s biggest fear is not being able to help or comfort their child when they are ill. St. Judge’s brings hope to parents and children by providing treatment and care for cancers and other catastrophic diseases. It is widely-regarded as the most-trusted charity in America and the nation’s top children’s cancer research center.
South Florida Trailriders Club & Freidin Brown, P.A. Work Together for its Annual Horse Trail Ride
Our Office Manager, Mayra N. Saavedra has devoted 15 years to helping the South Florida Trailriders Club (SFTC) and its charitable projects. The Club holds a yearly horse trail ride fundraiser. Maria Delange, the Client Relations Director for Freidin Brown, P.A. has also been involved for the past 4 years, helping with the registration at SFTC events. Out of all our community efforts, this one might just be the one that we consider the most fun. To show thanks to the SFTC for creating such an entertaining and heartwarming event, year after year, our staff is always generous with their personal contributions.
Freidin Brown, P.A. Runs Mock Trials for Alexander Mentessori Elementary School
We arranged for the third graders of the Alexander Montessori School to put on a trial and learn about the criminal justice system during a field trip to the courthouse. The children performed the trial of State. v. Gold E. Locks, a fun twist on the classic Goldilocks tale. They also were able to speak with and ask questions of the Honorable Peter Lopez, and later observed a jury being selected in front of the Honorable William Thomas. Judge Thomas did an excellent job of explaining the presumption of innocence and the rights afforded to individuals who are accused of a crime. Overall, this was a fantastic day for the bright minds of tomorrow’s legal professionals.
Annual Christmas Toy Drive, Easter Egg Hunt & Easter Basket Giveaway
Celebrating the holidays goes hand-in-hand with giving back to the community here at Freidin Brown, P.A. Each year, we like to hold a Christmas toy drive, Easter egg hunt, and Easter basket giveaway. At some of these events, we have hired clowns to entertain local children, as well as purchased books for and read stories to local underprivileged children. What better way is there to say you care about the people around you than embracing and spreading holiday cheer and charity?
