Freidin Brown, P.A. & SAVE Announce Launch Of Annual Social Justice Scholarships
Miami, Florida – June 25, 2021 – For the third consecutive year, Miami-based law firm Freidin Brown, P.A. will be partnering with SAVE to award $25,000 in scholarships to five LGBTQ and allied students who demonstrate academic excellence and strive to lead in a field of social justice. Applicants for the 2021 scholarships must have completed at least two years of college or be enrolled in or accepted to a graduate program with a focus in social work, community policy, law, education, or any other field related to addressing social justice issues. Applications will be accepted from July 1, 2021 through August 31,2021. The five recipients will be announced on September 23, 2021 at SAVE’s annual Champions of Equality gala.
Since 2019, the Freidin Brown, P.A. & SAVE Social Justice Scholarships have provided over $50,000 in financial support to LGBTQ and allied students passionate about addressing social justice challenges that face their communities and finding a way to implement change. Alumni of this scholarship program have achieved impressive accomplishments after receiving their financial award and we feel confident that this year’s applicants will illustrate that same drive to make South Florida an even more inclusive and accepting community. Previous recipients of the Freidin Brown, P.A. & SAVE Social Justice Scholarships consist of a diverse group of individuals who share a common goal of implementing change and being a voice to the voiceless. The alumni of this annual scholarship program include three law students, one of whom was instrumental in securing gender-neutral bathrooms on campus; another who served as the LGBT Bar Liaison and Vice President of the Black Law Students Association; and the Chair of Miami-Dade County’s LGBT Advisory Council.
“We are so excited to be giving five more students the financial support they need to be tomorrow’s social-justice leaders. The plan is to grow the program in the years to come so that we can reach as many deserving LGBTQ and allied students as possible,” said Jonathan Freidin of Freidin Brown, P.A., who also serves as Chair of SAVE, Inc.
On receiving her 2020 scholarship, University of Miami undergrad and SpectrUM president, Nathaly Gonzalez remarked, “I was able to continue in school and with the comfort of having some financial strain alleviated, was able to end the Spring 2021 semester with straight A’s. I gathered the courage to submit one of my projects to the Richard Macksey Symposium at Johns Hopkins and now my manuscript is undergoing peer-review to be published! Without this scholarship, I would have never been able to do any of these things because it made me feel seen and that I deserved and was worthy; that my accomplishments were valid because when one of us succeeds, we all move forward.”
By providing these scholarships to five deserving students, we hope to once again provide the assistance needed for these trailblazers to make the changes they wish to see in the world. To apply, students can visit YourFloridaTrialTeam.com
